SOLAR SPRINT

A competition where students design, build and race solar-powered cars using hands-on engineering skills and principles of science and math. Junior Solar Sprint (JSS) – funded by an Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP) grant – and Senior Solar Sprint (SSS) are managed by the Technology Student Association (TSA).

Registration for JSS and SSS is conducted annually through the Ideal-Logic registration link. Registration is required for all JSS and SSS advisors, team members, volunteers, and anyone else who participates in the events. Data gathered from registration impacts future funding for JSS and SSS from the Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP) - and helps the Technology Student Association (TSA) improve the JSS and SSS programs. The Solar Sprint competitions – Junior Solar Sprint (JSS) and Senior Solar Sprint (SSS) – will be held during the 2025 National TSA Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.

Junior Solar Sprint (JSS) – funded by an Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP) grant – and Senior Solar Sprint (SSS) are managed by the Technology Student Association (TSA). The competitions offer resources that empower teachers, mentors, and other community members to engage middle and high school students in designing, building, and racing model solar cars. Students develop teamwork and problem-solving abilities, investigate environmental issues, and gain hands-on STEM skills as they construct the fastest, most interesting, and best crafted vehicle possible. An online resource center is available to educators. JSS and SSS are official TSA competitions.
