2025 Leadership Sessions

Representatives of the Florida State University (FSU) STARS Alliance (leadership organization) will conduct national TSA conference leadership sessions. This group provides K-12 outreach across the state, working with 6000-8000 students annually through summer camps, Girl Scout workshops, school STEM fairs, weekend coding workshops, etc. The STARS Alliance has also partnered with Florida TSA since 2008, assisting with leadership and state conferences. The group consists of student leaders who are officers in ten student organizations on the FSU campus that engage students in STEM careers and activities.

Time Management and Setting Goals 

Middle School Topic 1: Time Management and Setting Goals – How to use various techniques to better manage your time and tools to improve outcomes with planning. Various techniques will be discussed. 

Middle School Topic 2: Leading Others – Leading your team – a look at challenges as a leader, especially in your first role; how to use problem-solving skills, as well as strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) ) to inspire others; finding what motivates team members; and using emotional intelligence to get the best results from your team.

High School Topic 1: Learning and Innovation Skills – A Focus on Creativity and Critical Thinking. This presentation (part one of two parts) will help students prepare for an increasingly complex environment.

Creativity: How do you generate ideas and implement them effectively (tools to use to generate ideas, working past failure, learning strategies)? 

Critical thinking: a focus on decision making, analyzing evidence, synthesizing information.

High School Topic 2: Learning and Innovation Skills – A Focus on Communication and Collaboration. This presentation (part two of two parts) will help students prepare to work on their communication and collaboration skills.

Communication: How to articulate ideas, work in teams, listen effectively, communicate for different purposes, and leverage tools. 

Collaboration requires working successfully in teams, being flexible, being a team player, establishing accountability, and sharing responsibility while valuing individual contributions.

Session for Advisors: What Skills are TECH Employers Looking For? What tech jobs are in demand right now? What teaching areas should schools focus on for the near future? What skills are employers looking for? How can you prepare students for the job market?
