TEAMS

Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science

Join thousands of students and coaches in TEAMS (Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science)—an annual, theme-based competition that provides middle school and high school students with the opportunity to discover engineering with the potential to make a difference in the world. Every year, students and coaches across the country experience TEAMS.

TEAMS Mission

TEAMS is an annual competition designed to help middle school and high school students discover their STEM potential. Teams of two to four students apply their knowledge in practical, creative ways to solve real-world engineering challenges.

About TEAMS

TEAMS has served students in STEM disciplines for more than 30 years. TEAMS is administered by the Technology Student Association (TSA), a non-profit membership organization. You do not have to belong to TSA to participate in TEAMS; however, TSA-affiliated chapters receive a 30 percent discount on TEAMS registration.

What is TEAMS?

TEAMS (Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science) is an annual science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) competition that challenges middle school and high school student teams to work collaboratively to solve real-world engineering challenges, applying their math and science knowledge in practical, creative ways.

After participating in TEAMS—students increase their knowledge of engineering; feel more confident about participating in STEM activities; and increase their ability to work with others to solve complex problems.

TEAMS Offers:

  • Exciting, theme-based academic competition
  • Real-world applications of math and science
  • Collaborative skill building for teams of two to four students
  • Three-part competition, including Design/Build, Multiple Choice, and Essay components
  • Participation recognition of all teams
  • Certificates and awards for state and national winners

When does TEAMS take place?

The 2025 TEAMS state-level competition takes place between January 15 - February 18, 2025. Teams of two to four students compete in person on competition day for state honors. Teams whose combined overall state level score is among the top nationally will be eligible to compete for Best-in-Nation at the 2025 National TEAMS Competitions on June 27 - July 1, 2025.

The state-level competition is a three-part competition which includes:

  • Design/Build—Teams design and build a solution to an engineering challenge.
  • Multiple Choice—Teams use math and science skills to solve real-world engineering challenges.
  • Essay—Teams research and write an in-depth essay submitted electronically.
